A Handbook of Agricultural Entomology

By Dr. Preeti Gautam, Edited by Eliezer Collins

A Handbook of Agricultural Entomology provides a comprehensive overview of the study of insects that affect agricultural crops, both beneficial and harmful. It serves as a vital resource for students, farmers, researchers, and extension workers engaged in pest management and crop production. The book covers the classification, morphology, and life cycles of various insect species, with a strong focus on economically significant pests that damage crops such as rice, wheat, cotton, maize, and vegetables. In addition to pest identification, the handbook emphasizes integrated pest management (IPM) strategies, including biological control, cultural methods, chemical applications, and the use of resistant crop varieties. Beneficial insects like pollinators and natural predators are also discussed for their critical roles in maintaining ecological balance and enhancing agricultural productivity. The text includes detailed illustrations and field-based case studies that help in the practical identification and management of insect populations. With the growing challenges of pesticide resistance and environmental concerns, this handbook advocates for sustainable practices and environmentally friendly pest control. It bridges fundamental entomological science with practical field application, making it an indispensable guide for modern, sustainable agriculture. A Handbook of Agricultural Entomology offers an in-depth exploration of insect pests and beneficial species affecting crops, combining scientific principles with practical pest management techniques. Contents: 1. Introduction, 2. Techniques for Controlling Agricultural Pest Infestations, 3. Importance of Study Insects, 4. Forest Entomology, 5. Insect Morphology, 6. Pesticide Resistance, 7. Agricultural Pests and their Management, 8. Forensic Entomology.
